“The Omnivore’s Dilemma” is my current book. Although I’m only about half-way through, Michael Pollan’s book has helped changed forever the way I shop for food, the way I cook, and my understanding of the term “sustainability”. His research into the impact that our federal government subsidy of corn is having on our diets, our health, our environment, small farmers, and even our international politics, is shocking. So I am now buying most of my food at local farmers markets, getting to know where my food comes from, and how it is raised. That in turn has stimulated me to discover and try different foods, things like agretti, cranberry beans, lemon basil, goat, and rabbit. Plus, the flavors are much more intense. I can’t buy everything at the farmers market (coffee, bananas, many spices, etc.), but it has certainly changed my perception of what I see when I walk into a chain grocery store. Thanks, Michael Pollan, keep up the great writing!
